Sperm cryopreservation is a special method of preserving male biological material, i.e. sperm. Sperm is frozen by the method of instant freezing - vitrification.

Unlike the slow freezing method, vitrification does not form ice crystals in the sperm, so the natural structure of sperm is fully preserved. For freezing, a special cryoprotective substance is used, which turns into a glassy state under the influence of low temperatures.

How freezing works

Sperm is collected in special containers by masturbation in a separate room designated for the procedure. Within five minutes after receiving the biomaterial, it is sent to the embryology laboratory. Then the semen is purified and brought to the required sperm concentration, and then placed in containers for further storage.

Each container of sperm is labeled with the data of the person to whom it belongs. All containers with sperm are placed in containers that are placed in Dewar vessels under the influence of liquid nitrogen cooled to an extremely low temperature.

Optimal conditions for freezing are maintained throughout the storage period, and appropriate markings are made in the special documentation. Sperm can be stored for as long as patients need, so there are no time limits for cryopreservation.

A constant microclimate is maintained in the room intended for storing frozen sperm. The clinic staff cannot bring foreign objects, devices, or food into such a room. Walls, ceilings, and interior finishes must be made only of materials that do not absorb liquids and are resistant to dust.
