Free infertility treatment under the NHSU program

The NHSU is a state institution that provides medical services to Ukrainian citizens on a “money follows the patient” basis.
Under this program, the state reimburses the cost of infertility treatment for couples who meet certain criteria.
This allows patients to access modern reproductive technologies without financial difficulties.

The NHS program for infertility treatment includes the following services:

• Initial consultation with an obstetrician-gynecologist and reproductive specialist with a ready-made electronic referral for checking all documents.
• Enrollment in the IVF program:
  – comprehensive ultrasound monitoring of ovulation of the 1st cycle
  – medical support for the induction of superovulation
  – general anesthesia
  – ovarian follicle puncture
  – egg fertilization by ICSI
  – embryo cultivation
  – native embryo transfer
  – the program is considered to be completed after the result of the hCG test and ultrasound of a short-term pregnancy (first ultrasound).

What is not included in the package of the NHS ART program:

• Examination before IVF (but can be done in a health care facility where a declaration has been concluded with a family doctor or there is an agreement with the NHSU for package No. 9 “Prevention, diagnosis, monitoring of treatment and rehabilitation of patients in outpatient settings”).
• Preimplantation medical and genetic diagnosis of the embryo without medical indications.

The NHS infertility treatment program is designed for patients who meet the selection criteria:

• have a referral from a gynecologist;
• the patient’s age at the start of the cycle is no more than 40 years;
• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit;
• have been diagnosed with infertility.

• N97.0 Female infertility associated with lack of ovulation.
• N97.1 Female infertility of tubal origin.
• N97.2 Female infertility of uterine origin.
• N97.3 Female infertility of cervical origin.
• N97.4 Female infertility associated with male factors.
• N97.8 Female infertility of other origin.
• N46.0 Male infertility.

Thus, the patient chooses where to undergo this examination at their own expense, including at the IVMED clinic (according to the clinic’s price list), or can go to a medical institution where they will be examined and receive an electronic referral free of charge under Package 9 of the NHSU “Prevention, Diagnosis, Monitoring and Treatment in Outpatient Settings”.

If the patient has an electronic referral from an obstetrician-gynecologist of a health care facility where a multidisciplinary consultation has been established, the consultation of a reproductive specialist is free of charge.

The initial consultation is the same as a regular consultation with an obstetrician-gynecologist-reproductologist (according to the clinic’s price list).

The list of mandatory examinations before IVF for a woman includes:

• determination of blood type and Rh factor;
• clinical blood test, coagulogram, TORCH infections;
• blood tests for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C;
• Blood test for antimullerian hormone (AMH), prolactin (Prl), folitropin (FSH), lutropin (LH), progesterone (P), estradiol (E2);
• PAP test and microscopy of urogenital discharge;
• a physician’s (family doctor’s) opinion on the state of somatic health and the absence of contraindications for pregnancy.

For a man:

• determination of blood type and Rh factor;
• blood tests for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C;
• spermogram.

It is necessary to undergo an examination by an andrologist.
The package includes treatment with a diagnosis of N46.0 Male infertility.
At the same time, it is not forbidden to perform TESA and PESA procedures, but only if the institution has an NHS surgical package, they will perform the procedure free of charge.
The NHS also allows the use of donor sperm, which is paid for by the patient.

The medical consultation is organized on the basis of our IVMED clinic, so it is convenient for both the patient and the referring physician to choose us, because the patient does not need to solve this issue on his own.

Signed active declaration with a family doctor or therapist (for the entire duration of the program).

The patient chooses: the NHSU website has a list of all reproductive clinics that have signed an agreement with the NHSU to provide services under the free IVF program (our clinic is listed as Rodynne Dzherelo LLC).

The marriage may or may not be officially registered.

Thus, if the patient already has a diagnosis, it is necessary to update laboratory tests at the time of admission to the program and receive an electronic referral with the referral number “13209-00 Planning of procedures and patient management related to assisted reproductive technologies”.
