Preparation for IVF begins with a comprehensive examination of the couple. A woman needs to undergo pelvic ultrasound, hormonal screening, and blood tests to assess the state of her ovarian reserve. A man is usually prescribed a spermogram to analyze the quality of his sperm.

Ovarian stimulation
During a natural cycle, a woman usually produces only one egg. To increase the chances of success in an IVF cycle, hormonal stimulation is prescribed to help multiple eggs mature.

- The use of hormonal drugs (e.g., gonadotropins (Gonal F, Puregon, Rekovel, Humog, Menopur)) under strict medical supervision.
- Regular monitoring through ultrasound and blood tests to assess the development of follicles.
- The duration of stimulation is usually 10-12 days.
The doctor stops the stimulation when the follicles reach the required size and injects a drug for the final maturation of the eggs (Ovitrel or Differin, Decapeptil).

Egg collection
This procedure, known as follicle puncture, is performed under intravenous anesthesia and ultrasound guidance. The doctor inserts a thin needle through the vagina into the ovary to draw out the fluid from the follicles that contains the eggs.
- The procedure lasts 20-30 minutes.
- After being taken, the woman remains under observation for several hours.
- The resulting eggs are transferred to embryologists for further fertilization.

In vitro fertilization
At this stage, the eggs are combined with sperm in the laboratory. Depending on the quality of the sperm, two methods can be used:
- Traditional in vitro fertilization (IVF) – eggs are placed in a medium with sperm for natural fertilization.
- ICSI – one best sperm is injected directly into the egg.
16-18 hours after the procedure, embryologists check whether fertilization has occurred.

Cultivation of embryos
The fertilized eggs (zygotes) are transferred to special incubators, where conditions similar to natural ones are created. During this period, the embryos are actively developing, and doctors assess their quality.
- Cultivation lasts from 2 to 6 days.
- The best embryos are selected for transfer to the uterus or cryopreservation.

Embryo transfer
Embryo transfer is a simple procedure that is performed without anesthesia. The embryo is inserted into the uterine cavity using a thin catheter under ultrasound guidance.
