Cervical erosion

Ectopia, or cervical erosion, is a defect in the epithelial tissue of the vaginal part of the cervix. In the area of such a defect, inflammatory processes can develop due to the ingress of pathogenic microorganisms into the erosion area.

In case of untimely treatment of cervical erosion, tumors can occur.

Cervical erosion: what types are there?

Pseudo-erosion

It occurs due to the replacement of the multilayer epithelium of the cervical tissue with a single layer due to inflammatory processes.

True erosion

Bleeding ulcers are visible on the surface of the epithelial tissue.

Congenital cervical erosion

Most often, it is formed at the stage of child development in the womb. During visual inspection, it is visible as a bright red spot on the surface of the fabric. Symptoms in the form of pain and bleeding are not pronounced.

Causes of cervical erosion

Obstetricians and gynecologists identify several factors that contribute to the occurrence of erosion (except for congenital):

  • Sexual intercourse in early adolescence (by the age of 18, the organs of the female reproductive system are not yet fully formed)
  • the presence of sexually transmitted diseases
  • the presence of inflammatory processes of the genital organs
  • gynecological surgical interventions undergone
  • difficult labor
  • disorders of the female hormonal system
  • weakening of the immune system.

What can indicate cervical erosion?

In the early stages, there are no symptoms associated with cervical erosion. Most often, an obstetrician-gynecologist detects it during a routine examination.

You should contact your gynecologist immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms:

  • pulling pain in the lower abdomen
  • menstrual irregularities
  • increase in the volume of vaginal discharge
  • discharge with blood after sexual intercourse or examination by a gynecologist.

Treatment of cervical erosion

Specialists in obstetrics and gynecology choose methods of treating cervical erosion depending on each individual case. For example, if a woman is planning to have a baby, more delicate treatment is prescribed.

Treatment of cervical erosion with maca is carried out on days 6-10 of the menstrual cycle.

1. Conservative therapy of cervical erosion.

It is carried out with the help of special solutions containing vagotil or saltpeter. The obstetrician-gynecologist applies the drug to a cotton swab, then applies it to the affected area of epithelial tissue.

The therapy does not cause scarring and is easily tolerated by patients.

2. Cervical diathermectomy

The essence of the procedure is to cauterize cervical erosion using electrodes under the influence of high-frequency current. The procedure lasts up to 15 minutes.

As a rule, diathermocoagulation is performed for women who do not plan to have another child in the future, as this procedure is characterized by a narrowing of the cervical canal, which in turn can complicate future childbirth.

After this procedure, doctors do not recommend taking baths, having sexual intercourse, or engaging in heavy sports for 4-6 weeks.

3. Cryodestruction of cervical erosion

This method consists in cauterizing the damaged fragment of the cervical epithelium with liquid nitrogen. The patient does not feel any pain or discomfort. The technique has also proven itself well due to the minimal likelihood of scarring.

4. Laser coagulation of cervical erosion

It is carried out under the control of a colposcope using a laser unit that "cauterizes" the tissue areas affected by erosion.

At the same time, the healthy epithelium is not affected. This method is suitable for the treatment of erosion in patients who have given birth.

5. Radio wave coagulation of cervical erosion

An expert technique of painless incision and subsequent coagulation of the affected epithelium using radioelectrodes. The procedure lasts 20 minutes.

6. Argon plasma coagulation of the cervix

Obstetricians and gynecologists use a device based on radio wave radiation, which is amplified by the inert argon gas. A high-frequency current is applied to the tip of such a device and "cauterizes" the affected epithelium.

During the procedure, a woman may experience subtle discomfort that does not require anesthesia.

Complete tissue recovery after argon plasma coagulation occurs within 2 months.
