Hysteroscopy

A modern medical and diagnostic procedure that allows the doctor to examine in detail the cervical canal, uterus and fallopian tubes. The optical instrument hysteroscope transmits the image to a special monitor.

Hysteroscopy is considered to be a highly informative diagnostic method that allows detecting serious pathologies of the internal uterine cavity at early stages, as well as performing medical manipulations and surgical interventions in the uterine cavity under the constant supervision of a gynecologist.

Indications for hysteroscopy

  • infertility;
  • the presence of benign or malignant tumors in the uterus;
  • fibroids;
  • polyps entometry;
  • obstruction of the fallopian tubes;
  • presence of masses in the genitourinary system;
  • the remains of the fruit egg;
  • malformations of the uterus.

The decision on when to perform hysteroscopy is made by the doctor taking into account the purpose of the procedure.

For women of childbearing age, it is performed 6-9 days after the end of menstruation. During this period, the uterine mucosa is the thinnest, so it can be carefully examined. For menopausal women and patients with emergency indications, the procedure is performed on any day of the cycle (provided that there is no heavy bleeding).

The following are considered contraindications to the procedure:

  • urethritis;
  • cystitis;
  • vaginitis;
  • heavy uterine bleeding;
  • inflammatory processes in a woman's body.

The procedure is not performed during pregnancy, in case of blood clotting disorders, as well as in case of certain kidney and heart pathologies. The procedure is contraindicated in patients who have previously had a heart attack, as well as women with cervical malignancies.

  • Consultation of an anesthesiologist and, if necessary, other specialized specialists;
  • electrocardiography;

Studies are necessary for hysteroscopy:

  • general blood and urine tests;
  • testing for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C;
  • biochemical blood test;
  • smear from the cervical canal for cytological examination;
  • smear to determine the state of the vaginal microflora.

A hysteroscope is a small rectangular instrument with two taps connected to hoses through which a liquid or gas is supplied under pressure, allowing for better viewing and enlargement of the uterine cavity for medical manipulations.

Both hysteroscopy and resectoscopy can be performed in one procedure. The histological material obtained during the manipulations is examined within 7 days.

Depending on the purpose, the procedure can be diagnostic, surgical, control, which is performed to check the results of treatment, as well as preparatory (before IVF).
