Scientific and educational base for future geneticists
For more than three years, the Cytogenetic Laboratory of the Avimed Clinic has been the official scientific and educational base of the Department of General and Medical Genetics of the Institute of Biology and Medicine of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, contributing to the training of future Ukrainian specialists in high-level genetic laboratory diagnostics.
Practical training of students under the guidance of Oleksandra Kashevarova
Oleksandra Kashevarova, head of the Cytogenetic Laboratory of theIVMEDclinic, provides practical training for the students of the department.
Oleksandra is a first-category specialist in laboratory genetics, a member of the All-Ukrainian Association of Specialists in Medical and Laboratory Genetics and the European Association of Cytogeneticists, with over 12 years of experience in reproductive medicine.
Introduction to the genetics of reproduction in practice
- As part of the course "Genetics of Reproduction", students of the department have the opportunity to learn about the main trends in modern reproductive medicine and gain practical skills directly in the Cytogenetic Laboratory.
- It is the conduct of this course at a medical institution that allows students to better understand the current methods used in the laboratory and to master the principles of using specialized equipment.
- During their studies, students get acquainted with the basic methods of ART, types of genetic diagnostics necessary for the treatment of patients with fertility problems.
- Students also work with scientific literature to gain a deeper understanding of the work of the reproductive medicine clinic.
Industrial practice and research for students
In addition, on the basis of the Cytogenetic Laboratory of the clinic “IVMED”, students of the department have the opportunity to undergo industrial practice with the subsequent writing of term papers and diploma papers.
Since the laboratory conducts genetic studies using different biological material, they have the opportunity to learn how to work with different techniques and collect a representative sample to present verified results.
Diploma and term papers made in our laboratory are successfully defended and receive high marks from the department’s specialists.
Scientific achievements of students
The research work of Ilya Maksymov, a first-year master’s student of the Department of General and Medical Genetics, on the topic: “Frequency of aneuploidy in spermatozoa of men with polymorphic chromosome variants”, was selected and published in the collection of abstracts within the framework of the XXI International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists “Shevchenko Spring” 2024.
Students who work in our Cytogenetic Laboratory for a long time have the opportunity to receive recommendations for further employment in the field of reproductive medicine.
