{"id":33325,"date":"2024-05-03T13:32:43","date_gmt":"2024-05-03T10:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ivmed.ua\/vagitnist\/prenatal-biochemical-screening\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T11:12:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T08:12:48","slug":"prenatal-biochemical-screening","status":"publish","type":"vagitnist","link":"https:\/\/ivmed.ua\/en\/vagitnist\/prenatal-biochemical-screening\/","title":{"rendered":"Prenatal biochemical screening"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Prenatal biochemical screening in the IVMED clinic is a set of laboratory tests that allows you to make sure that the fetus has no chromosomal abnormalities.<\/p>\n\n<p>The test helps to exclude the presence of an unborn child:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Down syndrome;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edwards syndrome;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patau syndrome.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Ministry of Health of Ukraine, by its Order No. 417 of 15.07.2011, recommends that all pregnant women undergo prenatal screening to assess the risk of fetal chromosomal abnormalities. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Prenatal biochemical screening is performed in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Screening is recommended if:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the mother&#8217;s age is over 35, the father&#8217;s age is over 45;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the couple had already had unsuccessful IVF attempts;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the future parents or their blood relatives have genetic abnormalities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the couple already has a child with developmental disabilities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the spouses are related by blood;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the woman has had miscarriages, a frozen or regressing pregnancy;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the woman has had an infectious disease or taken medications dangerous to the fetus before 10-11 weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>The first trimester screening or double test is performed at weeks 11-13 and includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>blood test for free b-hCG;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>blood test for PAPP-A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>The second trimester screening or triple test is performed at weeks 16-18 and includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>blood test for b-hCG;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AFP blood test;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E3 blood test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing for the study<\/h2>\n\n<p>On the eve of the test, it is recommended to follow a gentle diet, exclude fried and fatty foods, seafood, chocolate, citrus fruits, and meat products from the diet. Blood is taken from a vein in the morning on an empty stomach after a 6-8-hour fast. Before the test, you are allowed to drink 150 ml of water.  <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Based on the results of the tests and taking into account the fetal ultrasound screening data, the specialist draws up a conclusion about the risks of developing chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus.
